Indonesian sweet pancake, martabak manis, recipe ingredients (the batter) 4-5 tablespoons of sugar 1 cup of milk 1 cup all purpose flour 1 egg 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (raps or sunflower oil) 1 teaspoon salt 1 pack vanilla sugar (vanilla extract) 1/4 teaspoon backing powder ingredients (toppings): butter/margarine, sweet condensed milk cheddar cheese, chocolate/sprinkle, finely chopped or grinded peanut, almond or hazelnut, etc , according to your preferences.
lets cook use a quite thick frying pan, preferably cast iron.
this recipe suits for Ø 24 cm – Ø 28 cm frying pan.
clean and season the cast iron using a couple drops of vegetable oil sprinkle a bit flour to remove excess oil and spread over the surface using kitchen tissue heat the pan using low-medium heat combine sugar, egg, salt, and vanilla sugar mix well using a whisk or a mixer until the sugar granule completely dissolve add the flour in to the mixture and mix well Tips nr 1: Mix well all ingredients until you have a smooth batter the secret is by adding milk to the mixture bit by bit until you have a very thick & smooth consistency add the remaining milk and mix well add the vegetable oil into the mixture mix again Tips nr 2.
Always add baking powder right before frying baking powder reacts quickly after being mixed with water solution this is not indonesian pancake.
its an ordinary pancake.
Tips no 3.
use perfect heat to fry the pancake make sure that the heat is high enough to make bubbles in the batter come up if you hear beautiful sizzling sound.
that is the right moment to pour all the batter spread the batter to the side of the pan, so that you'll have a crispy part it will form bubbles, if the bubbles come up, then turn the heat down.
use a very low heat so that the pancake wont get burnt sprinkle 1 teaspoon sugar spread butter onto the pancake.
plenty amount of butter if you want to to have the same taste like indonesian pancake.
add your favorite toppings.
i like grated cheddar cheese you can also add chocolate or sprinkle, or adding some grinded peanuts, haselnut or almond, as you like don't forget to add sweet condensed milk cut half and flip it on top of each other spread the outer surface of the pancake with butter (again) and its done.
you have a crispy soft, moist and delicious pancake.
cut a piece and add strawberry for garnish serve warm now it's your turn to cook this.
